Prince George Fire Hall

Prince George, British Columbia

The mechanical design concept for this project was adapted to a cost-effective solution in order to meet the available budget. The design meets the energy guidelines and the owner requirements for the building that houses the City of Prince George’s 911 Call Centre. The building is in use 24/7 and includes living quarters for staff. The staff living quarters required an elaborate pressurized air system, due to close proximity to the emergency response vehicles.

A constant volume reheat system was selected for the majority of the building area, as this system best suited the unique building envelope. This building is an important public service presence in the City of Prince George. The overall design team created a welcoming well- fenestrated façade, and the mechanical design was developed to manage the volume of glazing successfully in a very cold winter environment.

State of the art ventilation systems were employed in the truck bay, as well as the other ancillary spaces in the fire hall. The building commissioning process was complete at the end of 2020.

This project exemplifies many of Falcon Engineering’s project management and approach concepts. Effective communication with the entire team, including the City of Prince George staff, plus a strong focus on coordination with the large consultant team contributed the success of this efficient new infrastructure project.
