South Okanagan Events Centre

Penticton, British Columbia

The South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) facility electrical and mechanical systems were designed by Falcon Engineering. This centre is home to the Penticton Vees Junior ‘A’ Hockey team of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and the prestigious Okanagan Hockey School which uses the second practice ice sheet, office and classroom space in the facility.

The facility sits on a 9-acre site and features a 5,000 seat spectator arena with a retractable seating system. This unique design reduces the conversion time between hockey and basketball floor configurations. The spectator arena also features high-intensity discharge (HID) metal halide lighting with a unique shutter system allowing for instant on/off and dimming.

Electrical lighting systems employ centralized low voltage controls and occupancy sensors throughout the facility along with energy efficient luminaires to reduce the overall electrical consumption.

The power distribution system was designed for flexibility and includes sub- metering for wide variety of tenants ranging from municipal offices to retail and restaurants. Also included was a show power distribution network which allows the facility operator to provide power to multiple stage and floor display locations depending on the configuration required for the event.
