In July 2021 Falcon Engineering was engaged by Horizon North Modular [HNM] Manufacturing to provide electrical consulting engineering services for a new Child and Family Services Offices Building for the Secwépemc Child & Family Service Agency in Kamloops, BC.
The overall building gross floor area is 2884 m² on two levels. The building is comprised of 21 modular units at the main level and 21 modular units at the second floor, with a covered entry area framed by wood columns.
The Secwépemc Child & Family Services Building features a symmetrical, functional layout arranged in a U-shaped configuration around a landscaped courtyard. Visitors are greeted by a spacious entry, reception and community area, which provides access to an elder’s room and a large meeting room with kitchen.
The main floor includes family areas, open work spaces, meeting rooms and 34 private offices. The second floor includes a large open visitor waiting area with a view to the community space, several small and large meeting rooms, open work spaces, support spaces and 34 private offices.
The Falcon electrical team worked closely with MQN Architects and HNM on this highly functional and flexible community services building. Falcon’s electrical design was developed to be economical and serviceable, with lighting fixtures and controls selected to create well-lit working environments. Layouts and distribution were based on the requirement of modular construction. In keeping with the project team’s streamlined approach to the building, the electrical design utilized readily sourced fixtures and components with simple maintenance requirements.
Following a six-month design development phase, project construction at 153 Kootenay Way commenced in January 2022. Reflecting the efficiencies of modular prefabrication, construction time on site was limited to 8 months. The Secwépemc Child & Family Services Building was completed and opened for use in August 2022.
