Queen’s Park YMCA Child Care

This facility, which was built on the site of Queen’s Park Elementary, consists of an infant room and a toddler room with nap rooms, washrooms, common spaces, and other ancillary services. It was designed to accommodate 59 children from 6 weeks of age to 12 years old. The building was built using a hybrid method that combined permanent modular construction with site-built elements.
The mechanical systems consisted of rooftop units that provide heating, cooling and ventilation, along with individual fans for washrooms. Low level return grilles were employed to improve energy efficiency by preventing warm air from stratifying at low level and bypassing the occupied zone. Mechanical service coordination was atypical in that we had to accommodate the modular structure.
